8-sotok classic layout: axes and zone scheme
Regular layout for an 8-sotok plot: central axis, symmetry, zone proportions, materials and plants for a classic garden. Basis for a FormSpace plan.
Short answer: a classic garden on 8 sotok (~800 m²) is built around a straight parade axis from gate to house, symmetrical planting on both sides, and one central lawn. The extra area allows wider formal beds and a second pair of mirror trees at the perimeter — without breaking the axis. Materials — gravel, natural stone, edging; plants — boxwood, roses, lavender in geometric beds. Below: a 7-zone scheme and transfer to FormSpace.
Previous step: classic garden on 6 sotok. Same archetype A01 at 800 m².
Who this is for
| Parameter | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Area | ~8 sotok (750–850 m²), rectangle |
| Shape | House on short side, gate opposite or to the side |
| Relief | Flat (< 3°) |
| Living | Permanent or frequent use |
| House | Classic, brick, render, European cottage |
| Taste | Order, symmetry, formal view from the street |
| Maintenance | Medium: hedge trimming 4–8 times per season |
Do not confuse with minimalism on 8 sotok (fewer beds, stricter materials) or Provence (softer lines, rustic decor).
The idea in one paragraph
A classic 8-sotok garden is a readable axis and mirror pair at scale. The view from terrace or street follows a straight path across a level lawn to the gate. Along the axis — repeating elements: low boxwood, roses in matching groups, gravel of one colour. The extra 200 m² gives wider beds and deeper lawn, not broken symmetry.
Zoning scheme
Reference: flat rectangle, house on short side, formal facade to the entry.
| # | Zone | ~% | ~m² | Content |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Parking / entry | 10 | 80 | 1–2 spaces, gravel matching the axis |
| 2 | Parade axis | 11 | 88 | Straight path gate → terrace, 1.4–1.8 m |
| 3 | Terrace by house | 13 | 104 | Stone or porcelain, symmetrical furniture |
| 4 | Central lawn | 30 | 240 | One level mass — “carpet” around the axis |
| 5 | Formal planting | 20 | 160 | Symmetrical beds: roses, boxwood, lavender |
| 6 | Secondary paths | 10 | 80 | Gravel, around house — quieter than the axis |
| 7 | Utility | 6 | 48 | Shed, compost — out of the central view |
Total: 100% ≈ 800 m².

Main rule: symmetry relative to the axis (at least visual). Utility must not face the terrace.
FormSpace brief (block 1.1)
- Area: 8 sotok / 800 m²
- Style: “Classic regular garden: central axis, symmetry, gravel, boxwood, roses”
- Layout type: regular
- Atmosphere: formal, orderly, calm
- Functions: parking, terrace, central lawn, formal beds
Materials
| Element | Recommendation | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Parade axis | Light gravel 5–20 with edging; or stone-look pavers | Curving path, chaotic pavers |
| Terrace | Natural stone, 60×60 porcelain | Decking without stone terrace |
| Edging | Granite kerb, concrete strip, boxwood 30–40 cm | Wavy plastic edging |
| Secondary paths | Same gravel, but narrower | Third gravel colour |
| Fence | Brick posts, wrought inserts, uniform height | Mixed fence types |
| Entry accents | 1–2 lamps, urn, pots symmetrically | Garden gnomes, windmills |
Palette: light gravel + green boxwood + rose colour + terrace stone.
Planting
Trees (2–4 per 8 sotok): columnar apple or pear symmetrically along the axis — only if they do not break the view; often at the perimeter behind beds.
Hedges: boxwood or yew — low “walls” 40–60 cm along the axis; floribunda roses in groups of 3–5 mirrored; lavender as bed border.
Lawn: one species, mow 4–5 cm, crisp edge at the kerb.
Avoid: climbing roses on arches along the axis, rockeries, prairie mixes.
Typical mistakes
- Axis without symmetry — roses left, hostas right. Classic needs pairs.
- Too many small beds — 3–5 formal patches are enough on 8 sotok.
- Curved main path — not for classic.
- Patchy lawn — need a solid centre.
- Utility facing the terrace — move to zone 7%.
- AI without a plan — plan in one evening first.

| 2 | 1.2 – 1.3 | Underlay, ~800 m² boundary |
| 3 | 1.4 | House, gate, existing trees |
| 4 | 1.5 | 7 zones — mirrored beds |
| 5 | 1.6 | Axis, terrace, lawn, planting |
| 6 | 1.7 | Check: lawn ~240 m², beds ~160 m² |
FAQ
How is 8 sotok different from 6 in classic style?
Wider beds and lawn, same axis. You can add a second pair of mirror trees at the fence.
Can I add a vegetable garden?
In pure classic, vegetables are not in the centre. Compromise: beds in zone 7% or behind formal planting.
Do I need a designer?
For a flat 8-sotok rectangle — not required: this scheme + plan is enough.
Summary
Classic 8-sotok layout = parade axis, symmetrical beds, central lawn, 7 zones with %. Easy to transfer to FormSpace in one evening.
