Project Preservation in FormSpace: Autosave and Recovery
Learn how FormSpace ensures the safety of your landscape project during page refreshes or system failures. Autosave, cloud storage, and data recovery.
When working on landscape design, no one is immune to unforeseen situations: internet outages, accidental tab closures, or browser errors. FormSpace is designed with these risks in mind to ensure your progress always remains safe. The main principle is automatic and regular saving of all changes to the cloud, which minimizes data loss and allows for easy project recovery from any device.
Autosave Mechanisms in FormSpace
FormSpace uses a hybrid saving system that includes both temporary local storage and permanent data recording to the cloud. With every significant change to your project—adding an object, modifying a zone, moving an element—the system records these actions. Autosaving occurs approximately every 30-60 seconds, sending data to the servers. This means that even in the event of a sudden crash, you will likely lose no more than a minute of work, which is significantly less than hours of effort that could be lost with manual saving.
What Happens When You Refresh the Page
If you accidentally or intentionally refresh the page, FormSpace instantly loads the most up-to-date version of your project from cloud storage. Because data is constantly synchronized with the server, you won't notice any loss of progress. The system is designed to provide a seamless transition and instant display of the last saved state. For example, if you added a group of 10 shrubs to a 12-are plot and immediately refreshed the page, those shrubs would remain in place.
What Happens During an Error or Connection Failure
In the event of a temporary internet connection failure or server error, FormSpace first attempts to save data locally in your browser's cache. As soon as the connection is restored or the error is resolved, local changes are automatically synchronized with the cloud. If a serious failure occurs and data could not be sent to the server, you may receive a message prompting you to manually save or restore from the last known version. FormSpace always prioritizes data integrity, so even in critical situations, it will make every effort to preserve your data.
Manual Saving and Project Versions
While autosave is effective, FormSpace also provides the option for manual saving. This is useful when you complete an important stage of work or want to fix a specific design version, for example, before trying radical changes. Manual saving creates a separate restore point that you can return to. In the future, we plan to expand version management functionality, allowing users to view and roll back to earlier saved project states, which is especially valuable for complex projects with many iterations.
Project Recovery After Unforeseen Situations
In most cases, recovery happens automatically. The next time you open the project, FormSpace will check for the latest saved data in the cloud and load it. If the system detects discrepancies between local and cloud versions (e.g., due to a prolonged lack of connection), it will prompt you to choose which version to use. This mechanism ensures that even after a serious failure, such as a complete computer power outage, you can continue working with minimal losses.
Advantages of Cloud Storage
Cloud storage is not just a backup; it's the foundation for secure and flexible work. Your projects are accessible from any device, whether it's a desktop computer in the office or a laptop in the countryside. This eliminates the risk of data loss due to a single device failure, which is a common problem with local storage. Additionally, the cloud makes it easy to share projects and collaborate on them. Common User Errors Related to Saving
Most cases of data "loss" are not due to the system but to user errors. One of the most common is closing a tab immediately after making critical changes, without waiting for the system to synchronize data with the cloud. Or, for example, working offline without subsequent synchronization when the internet becomes available. To avoid this, always give the system a few seconds to autosave after important changes and ensure your internet connection is stable. Also, when working on complex projects on plots of 15 ares or more, with many objects, it's sometimes useful to make manual saves to have clear rollback points. How to Plan in FormSpace with Data Preservation in Mind
Landscape planning in FormSpace inherently provides a high level of data preservation. For example, when working with module 1.x "Plan/Zones/Objects," you draw plot boundaries, place objects, create recreation areas, and every action is automatically saved. Imagine you are developing a concept for a 20-are plot: adding dozens of trees, shrubs, 1.5-meter wide paving elements, and FormSpace constantly records this progress, sending data to the servers. You don't need to constantly click "Save" – focus on creativity.
Even if you actively use module 2.1 "AI Concept" to generate new ideas or module 3.1 "Design by Photo" for visualization, the system saves all created variants and their parameters. For instance, you uploaded a photo of your house, placed design elements on it, and then generated several AI concepts. Each of these concepts, as well as the history of your interactions with them, will be saved. This allows you to experiment without fear of losing previous work, as you can always return to any of the saved variants.
FAQ
How often does FormSpace save my changes?
FormSpace automatically saves all changes in your project approximately every 30-60 seconds. This happens in the background, allowing you to focus on design without needing to manually click the save button. Thanks to this, even in unforeseen situations, data loss is minimized.
Can I lose a project if the internet disconnects?
In case of a temporary internet disconnection, FormSpace will try to save your latest changes locally in the browser. As soon as the connection is restored, this data will be synchronized with the cloud. Complete project loss due to internet disconnection is extremely unlikely, but it is always recommended to ensure synchronization is complete after the connection resumes.
What if I accidentally close the tab without saving?
If you accidentally close the FormSpace tab, don't worry. Thanks to the autosave system, the next time you open the project, you will see it in the state it was in a few seconds before closing. All recent changes that managed to synchronize with the cloud will be restored automatically.
Are old project versions stored?
In the current version of FormSpace, the primary focus is on preserving the most up-to-date version of the project. However, if you perform a manual save, it creates a separate restore point. In the future, we plan to expand version management functionality to allow users to view and revert to earlier project states as needed.
Is there a limit on the number or size of projects?
FormSpace does not set strict limits on the number of projects or their size in terms of data volume. You can create as many projects as you need and work on designs of any complexity. Cloud storage scales to meet your landscape planning needs.
Can I work on a project from different devices?
Yes, thanks to cloud storage, you can access your FormSpace projects from any device with internet access. All changes made on one device will be available on another after synchronization. This ensures flexibility and continuity of your workflow.
How do I know if the project is successfully saved?
FormSpace usually displays a small indicator or message in the interface confirming that changes have been saved. This could be a cloud icon or the text "Saved." If you notice that the save activity indicator does not appear for some time after significant changes, it may indicate a connection problem.
FormSpace does everything possible so that you can focus on creativity without worrying about the safety of your work. Automatic and cloud saving is reliable protection for your landscape project at every stage of its creation. Keep creating, and we'll take care of the security of your ideas.
